Dear prospective parents and scouts,
Thank you for your interest in Troop 99! As you and your son make decisions on extracurricular time commitments, we ask that you consider the unique opportunities that Troop 99 offers to its members.
Troop 99 is a very active troop! Our scouts go out on monthly campouts that include events such as kayaking in San Marcos, hiking in Perdenales Falls , shotgun shooting and Troop 99’s famous Wide game at Dessens Ranch. Summer camp features a week of fun outdoor experiences at scout camps in Texas or as far as Wyoming. The troop has additional fun and service activities throughout the year. We have been chartered by St Thomas More Catholic church for over 40 years, and we serve St Thomas More as volunteers at many parish events, such as prayer garden clean up and Octoberfest.
The Boy Scouts of America's program enhances not only an individual’s life but also his experience in other organized youth activities such as sports and band because of its opportunities for leadership and career development. The BSA program teaches Scouts to set goals and work at their own rates to advance through the ranks to Eagle Scout. Within the troop, patrols of 5-8 boys elect their leader and learn about teamwork while working on projects. Adults help each Scout learn what kinds of planning lead to success or failure in projects. Skills such as first aid, knots, cooking, and boating help boys develop self-reliance. The merit badge program introduces boys to hobbies and careers such as business, chemistry, medicine, electronics, theatre and woodcarving.
Our meetings are held Monday nights 7:00PM in the Scout House. (From Memorial Day to Labor Day, they are held Tuesday nights.) If you have questions please reach out to me and/or come visit us at our Monday night meetings at 7:00 pm at the Scout House. Thank you for your consideration!
Yours in Scouting,
Ed Seymour, Scoutmaster
