Why Emmaus? The Road to Emmaus began with the disciples, sad in their belief that Christ was dead for good; not knowing that He was with them all along teaching them and guiding them on to Emmaus. As they learned and were filled with greater hope, they were ready to be at table with him and behold the breaking of the bread, the Mass, which opened their eyes to his True Presence. Their hope is now restored. They are initiated into the good news as those who partake in RCIA are to be.
Every parish is called to care for those who want to join the Church which Christ has established through a special process called the Rite of Chrisitian Initiation for Adults. This is valuable work on the cutting edge of the Gospel for it truly is the work of evangelization. The Society of Emmaus is entrusted with this saacred work as it assists the Director of Adult Formation.
The Society first and formost sees who it is that is seeking to learn about Catholicism, what their concerns and stories are, so that their needs can be met in kind. Knowledge is met with personal service so that those who are discovering the faith can come to know the Christian message as it is both spoken and lived.
There is also special attention given to those who are already Christian and are seeking full communion with the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church through the Rite of Chrisitian Initiation for Adults. No matter the needs, it requires Catholics of all gifts and talents to prepare souls for entrance or full communion at Easter / Pentecost. This is no one person ministry but a psrish, familial ministry which this society has been formed and entrusted to do!
