The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is a ministry that encompasses helping the needy who reach out to us in their time of need. Their need can be of a nature that is tangible or intangible and sometimes both. As an example, during a recent home visit one friend in need after receiving a pledge of financial help broke down in tears and requested we pray for her. We immediately soothed our Friend and gathered round in a circle and held hands and prayed to God in Jesus' name giving thanks and seeking His help. We keep in our daily prayers each and every one of our Friends. Other times Vincentians may be provided an opportunity to explain our Catholicism and invite our Friends to our St. Thomas More Church. We have Bibles to give to those who are without as well as a list of scripture verses that pinpoint specific areas of need they can pray over. One Friend said when asked if she needed a Bible replied that she had many King James versions but the one we offered was Catholic. What was the difference? Other questions asked were about the priests who marry and those who don't---why? Vincentians have a great opportunity when the Holy Spirit opens the door to proclaim our Lord, Jesus and how great He is, and to invite our Friends to our Church. We even leave them a STM Bulletin to spike their interest. Being a Vincentian is all about sharing the love, the love Jesus gives us and for us to give others, our neighbors.
